Homage Matisse Dancers in Ceramics by Lorraine Oerth | | More Special Items | On a 16inch stoneware platter, I made the decoration in a technique called "Cuerda Seca", which means dry line.
This is a pigmented wax, that I lined the figures with. Then inside the lines, the figures were filled-in with white glaze, while the background was contrasted using black glaze. The sun is a bright raspberry red glaze.
Even though this is designed as a display piece - it is also functional. So a couple of times a year, use if for crackers or appetizers when you have a party.
It is also dishwasher safe (but it is quite large, so it may not fit), but I tell you this so that you know it is a completely functional piece.
This is a one of a kind piece and will not be repeated. It is signed "Oerth" on the underside.
