The recent transition from representational oils to abstract acrylics has opened my mind to a level of exploration that I never thought I could attain. My art is playful and colorful and my attraction to this type of expression is magnetic.
My artistic training consists of over eighteen years of instruction at the Torpedo Factory – from drawing to anatomy, from oils to acrylics, from realistic landscapes and animal portraits to abstract renderings. I have studied with many of the TF artists and, for the last five years, with Marsha Staiger. I continue to take classes almost every semester at the Factory.
The style of my art could be described as extreme doodling, which has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Caran d’arche paint sticks have replaced the Crayola crayons of my youth. It’s a delight that this type of creative expression comes so naturally to me. Quite often the viewers find unexpected characters residing in my pieces – not something that I intended – and that usually leads to interesting interactions. I take great pleasure from that.
Through this medium I am able to fulfill my need for playfulness in a demanding world. I trust that you can feel the joy that I derive from this form of self-expression, and hope that my pieces will lighten your heart as well.
